MEB General Contractors Ranks among Nation’s “Top 400”

Chesapeake, VA. MEB General Contractors has been ranked as one of the largest contactors in the United States by Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine in its "Top 400 Contractors" edition. This was MEB’s first ever ranking and was based upon total 2008 revenue of $159 Million. ENR, the leading construction industry trade journal, is published weekly and ranks the nation’s top contractors on an annual basis.

MEB General Contractors’ Employees Pass LEED Exam

Chesapeake, VA. The following individuals at MEB General Contractors have passed the LEED NC (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – New Construction) exam, earning accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council:

Steve Bunting, LEED AP, has been an MEB project manager for more than 4 years and has nearly 30 years of construction industry experience. Bunting’s expertise includes both commercial and industrial design/build and construction management projects. His recently completed projects include Metroplex One, a 34,000SF office building located on the CBN/Regent University campus; Jefferson School Lofts, an adaptive-reuse renovation of an historic Suffolk school into apartments; and American Port Services, (2) 150,000SF high bay industrial warehouses in Suffolk’s Northgate Commerce Park.

Chesapeake, VA. The following individuals at MEB General Contractors have passed the LEED NC (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – New Construction) exam, earning accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council:

Wesley Bynum, LEED AP, is MEB’s Chief Estimator and holds a Bachelor of Science, Construction Management degree from East Carolina University. Bynum has been with MEB for more than 5 years and oversees cost estimating for the company’s construction management, negotiated design/build and hard bid projects. He has experience with a diverse range of construction types including schools, commercial office buildings, industrial warehouses, multi-family projects, water and wastewater treatment facilities, as well as municipal, state, and federal projects.

Groundbreaking for Metroplex One Facility

Virginia Beach- Mid Eastern Builders (MEB) held a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 for the Metroplex One office building. Metroplex One is a two story, 35,000 SF, multi-tenant facility located at the intersection of Regent University Drive and Midtowne Way on the campus of the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN). Completion is expected by October of this year and future tenants will include the American Center for Law and Justice, Trinity Broadcasting Network, and Regent University’s School of Global Leadership and Entrepreneurship.

MEB General Contractors Completes the Nation’s Largest EDR (Electrodialysis Reversal) System at Suffolk’s G. Robert House Water Treatment Plant

Chesapeake, VA. MEB General Contractors has completed the largest EDR (Electrodialysis reversal) system in the United States, at the G. Robert House Jr. Water Treatment Plant in Suffolk. Internationally, Suffolk’s system is second only to a project currently in design for Barcelona, Spain. Additionally, the $46 million contract is the largest the City has awarded in its history. The project combines an expansion of the existing treatment plant, a new well source and a pipeline connecting the two.

MEB General Contractors’ Employee Passes LEED Certification Exam

Chesapeake, VA. Mark F. Olmstead LEED AP, has passed the LEED NC (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – New Construction) certification exam, earning accreditation from the US Green Building Council. Senior Vice President of MEB, he currently oversees MEB’s project managers, estimating, scheduling, and strategic planning. He holds a Bachelor of Science-Environmental Sciences degree from Virginia Tech, and has been with MEB for more than 26 years. Olmstead is currently managing construction of the $15M “Trail of the Tiger” exhibit for the VA Zoo in Norfolk, and has recently completed the $26M Ocean Beach Club Tower and $14M Blackhawk! Corporate Headquarters. He is a member of The Noblemen and currently serves as the Tidewater District President for the Associated General Contractors of America.

MEB General Contractors Partners with Timmons Group and Southampton County to Build Waste Water Treatment Plant

Chesapeake, VA. MEB is constructing the Courtland Waste Water Treatment Plant in Southampton County as a Public-Private project contracted through the Commonwealth’s PPEA legislation. The Public-Private Education and Infrastructure Act (PPEA) of 2002 allows private sector businesses to partner with public entities, utilizing their expertise on public projects to save time and money. The law created resources to fund a comprehensive range of public projects and encourages innovative approaches to financing such work. MEB partnered with Timmons Group engineers to submit an unsolicited proposal to Southampton County in an effort to meet their growing waste water needs.

MEB General Contractors is awarded Design/Build project at Defense Supply Center Richmond

Richmond - MEB General Contractors has begun the repair and renovation for the water distribution system at the Defense Supply Center Richmond (DSCR), including new connections to the Chesterfield County water main system. MEB is working with Chester’s Austin Brockenbrough & Associates, specialists in water system engineering, on this design/build project.
